Hi,
Can you inspect the impeller without replcing it?
Can you change just the impeller or do you need to buy the sevice kit?
When is houding replacment nessisary?

Why bother dropping the LU and not doing the pump right? Do the complete kit.

Sure, easy just to check it. Just watch a very small key that is used on the shaft for impeller. But as stated, why don't you just get a impeller kit (you could do just the impeller, but a lot of times the housing is worn too) and be done with it?

just wondering becouse I just got it and don't know how old the impeller is so wanted to check it.

I agree. Once you get into the lower unit, might as well change it. That's the easy part....And if you don't know when it was done, it's time...
