What direction should the blades be facing when you have the housing in your hand and you are putting in the impeller?

Looking down on the gearcase, the impellor turns clockwise. Although it will straighten it self out once under power.

I think I have put it in backwards. The motor will straighten it back out or do I need to re-drop the lower unit and flip it so that the bend is correct?

The driveshaft turns clockwise, so looking down on the shaft with the impeller installed, the ends of the blades would curve counterclockwise. If you have the impeller housing in your hand, it will be the opposite, as you are looking up at the impeller when installed. So the ends of the blade would curve clockwise.

No, you do not need to disassemble it. It will right itself almost instantly when you start the motor...
