Hello!

Just coming back from disassembling my Merc. brass seawater pump (Part-No.: 862914) sitting on a 4.3 L MPI from 2005. While the impeller itself is in perfect condition the impeller housing plate is showing some concentric grooves (pic. enclosed).

Would you recommend a replacement?

Thank you
Christian

How does the housing itself look? If anything like the cover, replace the whole pump.

Well, the housing itself looks fairly good (see pic). No mechanical damages. Same to the impeller!?

Maybe, just changing the housing?

Thx
Christian

It may be OK this time. Hard to see without 3-D. The grooves don't look as deep as in the cover.

Mine looked the same with 200 hours on it. Took it down to the local machine shop, put it on his belt sander for a few seconds, looked almost like new when I left.

Just want to report back: Brought the housing to a local grinding shop (pic. enclosed). They put it on a precision grinding machine taking away all the groves and a nice flat surface is back. Of course, a few milimeters are gone but, housing will run one or two more seasons prior a replacement is needed. I paid 50 Euros which is around 65 US $ and 150 US $ less of the replacement part. :)DSC_0004.JPG
