I am installing a new impeller on my 94 alpha gen 2 and have removed the six bolts per the manual -( the drive is in forward) but the lower unit is not coming down at all. What have I missed?

It's probably stuck on the locating pins on the front and back. I find a dead blow mallet on the back of the lower unit (NOT ON THE CAVITATION PLATE) usully pops it loose. Some take some gentle prying with a thin bladed putty knife between the upper and lower to get a gap started, then gentle prying with a thin screwdriver to evenly drop it down.

Thanks Don, I was reluctant to pry or tap, but I'll be careful.

160 is fine. It will probably actually run better and use less fuel with the 160 in place. Just keep an eye on the temp guage to make sure everything is working properly and you'll be fine.

I'm sure you know the difference between a good one and a bad one? I just had a customer today tell me his was ok. He had it in hand. After looking at it, it was pure junk. He didn't know how they worked or what they looked like new so assumed since it was all there that it was good.

It looked identical to the new one I install. I also replaced T stat seems to be holding @ 175 pretty steady now.
