Impeller Leak

My 2005 Volvo 5.7 Gi-E has sat for about two years (don't ask...) I put a new battery in and started it up. Runs good, but noticed a small leak at the raw water impeller housing. I cannot see where it is coming from. I am replacing the impeller and o-ring. The kit does not include the #6 washer or o-ring usually shown in the diagrams. Should I be concerned or look for a leak at the impeller housing and shaft? Is there another washer that should be replaced?

I broke one of the screws and have ordered new ones from iboats, the #6 washer is listed as "out of stock". Before I put it all back together, I'd like to replace all of the usual suspects so my time on the water is "uneventful".

Personally I would get the washer and O-ring and replaced them they tend to get dry when they sit not to mention when it comes to something like a water pump I would replace everything I took off like that gaskets o-rings etc.. good luck to ya thats prolly where your problem lies.

If you reach under and behind the impellar housing there is a small hole where the water is most likely coming from this means you at least have to replace that #6 seal then if that does not fix the leak then your bearing is bad and you will have to replace the whole water pump.

I'd like to replace it, but unfortunately it did not come with my new impeller. And the owner's manual doesn't identify it. But I can see it. Attached is a diagram from my Volvo Owner's Manual. Iboats shows it as #6 but says it is out of stock.

Please confirm for me... The oring on the shaft should be replaced and how do I remove the old one. I do not have the new one and hence really don't know what it looks like or what it is. And before I start tearing it apart, I'd like to confirm: 1.) that it is indeed an oring or similar, 2.) that it is replaceable, and 3.) how do I get it out of its recess?

It was a pretty steady drip running or not from the impeller housing or on the back side of the impeller housing. I need to find the part. How do I remove the old one? Use 2 tweezers at 180 deg to pull it out?

OK you will need to take the impellar housing off then the fan belts now remove the 3 large allen head bolt that hold the water pump onto the harmonic balancer, now gently remove the rubber seal from the center without damaging the shaft and replace with the new seal, note the way the old seal is in before you remove it so you can put the new one in the same way. This seal is not part of the impellar kit I got mine from a boat dealer, just call, it is a common part $6.00 at the dealer . You can do this good luck.

I have the water pump off and on the bench. The center seal appears to be something "spring-loaded". Is that correct? And, if so, how would you suggest that I gently remove it, looking for suggestions?:redface:

OK that is the seal with a built in spring I just took a small screwdriver and pryed it out and put a little lube on the new one and gentley pushed it back on. The spring is part of the seal just pull the whole thing out. Good luck and keep us posted. KK PS I use to live in Vegas!:redface:

Thanks former neighbor. I shredded the old taking it out. Now I know how. I put a little glycerin on the new one and pushed it in. The pump is all back together. I'll install it tomorrow and start it up. Should run perfect.

BTW: Note to all - obtain the repair parts when you can in advance of having a problem. It took me several trips to different suppliers to get the parts when I could have ordered them well in advance. I now have replacements. Any suggestions on other replacement parts is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure all of us drive all over town looking for the right parts. For whatever reason, nobody carries what I need. It's like they take it off the shelf before I leave home.

Well today's event was just simply unacceptable. I called with the description, engine and part number. The shop clerk replied with yeah we have it, but bring it down to make sure. I get there and he tells me the computer is down and he can't look it up, come back tomorrow. Its on the other side of town. Time for a new supplier. The next guy had everything but no technical knowledge.
