In attempting to access the impeller on an old seahorse 5 1/2, I pulled the lower unit loose, but it would only pull away from the motor about two inches. Is there something else I need to disconnect, like the water feed line, and how do I access it? I don't know the year - the model number is CD-10

Dserrill.... You have a 1954 5.5hp Johnson. You will need to remove the powerhead in order to disconnect the shift linkage rod which is attached to the shift handle (under the powerhead) with two nuts... a regular nut, a lockwasher (possibly), and a locknut.

Dserrill, You should have a manual.
Manual for older than 57 may be hard to find.
Though maybe someone can tell if 57 service manual is close enough. If you want a manual specific to your motor try Ken Cook Marine
Publications. at:www.kencook.com/kccwww
Manuals for almost any OMC application though you may have to dig deep.
