Hi folks- first time posting, please forgive spelling and grammar errors-
have a 1994 mercury 150 hp w/500 + hours bought used- (lost the impeller only, hopefully) this weekend- was in the water with water peeing out till I got 3-400 yards away from dock - temp gauge pegged and no water out of the hole- shut off and got a tow from nice folks back to dock- got a repair manual from west marine- very vague about replacement of impeller- had a lot of info for 3 to 225hp motors all mixed together- anyone have a simple step by step instructions for this repair?

Thanks for any help!

Re: impeller problems

Could be maybe the water pump if it stoped working all together. Just a guess, but its probably either of the 2. Do a search and im sure you will find plenty of what your looking for. Water pump should only be a little over $100 May be a good idea yways since the motor is almost 13 years old. My motor is a 1988 and its never been done and want to do it. I just got my boat also but the motor was not ran much.

My 225 Black Max was spraying good when running but when you stoped it steamed a lot and the telltail water would shoot out like water was boiling. On the way back to the dock it stoped alltogether and overheated. When I replaced the upper and lower pump housings and the impeller the old impeller was split from top to bottom allowing the impeller to spin on the shaft. After repair sprays good no steam, life is good. Now if I could just get it to start when i need it to run like waiting for the launch to become available it would be awesome.

Re: impeller problems

You might find 2 bolts under the side fins. Mine, like in the pictures has 3 bolts up front 2 under the side fins and one in back under the steeering compensating rudder. Its really easy anyone with basic mechanical abilities should not have any problem performing the repair. The only thing I noticed that was not covered in the picture post was my Dealer told me to put a bead of Silicone sealer between the rear section (exaust) and the water pump/driveshaft cavity to eliminate the possibility of exaust leaking on the new plastic pump assy.
