Impeller replace 1985 evinrude 15hp

Iv tackled alpha outdrives before but never changed an impeller in this little old 15hp evinrude. Is there anything that I need to watch for ie: what geer should I be in. or do i have to watch the shift bar so that it doesnt move? or maybe anything else that could be different? Thanks Ray.

Remove the 6 bottom bolts from the gearcase and shift into forward, the lower will drop an inch, remove the top shift link bolt ALL THE WAY and pull the gearcase downward, if all goes well the shift rod will disconnect and the driveshaft will drop out of the powerhead. Sometimes the driveshaft gets stuck in the powerhead then there is a whole new challenge. Watch for the tube grommet, they get distorted or fold over, check the housing and plate for wear- a whole new pump kit may be in order.
