Hello All,

I am trying to replace an impeller on a 1966 Evinrude Sportsman 150 and cannot get the lower unit removed. I have tried to find something on YouTube, although nothing is available for this boat. I have removed the six bolts holding the lower unit to the outdrive, although it does not want to separate (something is holding it from lowering and removal). Any suggestions, input or resources would be greatly appreciated. The unit is in neutral and the outdrive is in the down position. I have the replacement impeller, but do not want to force this unit apart. Thanks in advance.

Somebody here might know the answer, but you might get better results in the OMC I/O Outdrives forum.

EDIT: It has been a very long time since I've worked on one, but I seem to remember there is another bolt at the rear. like above the exhaust outlet snout?

You look for ENGINE info not BOAT info. The lower unit won't drop because you didn't remove the bolt from the shift shaft under the bottom carb.

Maybe I read it wrong, but I understood he has an Evinrude Sportsman boat with a 150hp I/O, not an outboard. They didn't even make a 150hp outboard in 1966
