I don't have the specific manual for my 1983 Force 85 HP but would like to replace my impeller today. Can anyone send me step-by-step instructions along with any advice as to any special precautions or tips that may not be in the manual? I've read some related posts here that indicate there was a sticky on this topic but I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

Google and you'll find at least one similar if not identical at Youtube.

Reread post 7. Also buy the complete kit; not lust the impeller. It comes with everything;bolts; gaskets;etc. The housing is usually pitted and will eat the new impeller 05 is the go to about Force.

Thanks again JJ

The slotted screw is a pivot point for the shift linkage.
Remove it and you might have to take apart the lower to get it right again.

The pump housings pitting: the pot metal it's made of does corrode but it still works even in real bad shape.

IF? the wear plate has deep grooves or the top inside of the housing has deep grooves then I'd replace it.

Thanks guys...the step by step was helpful and there was an older post that answered other questions. I bought an Intertec outboard service manual but it is very basic and doesn't provide detailed instructions for many of the components.

It's not that hard; just a few things you have to do all at the same time. My problem was the weight of the L/U; it gets heavy quick! I used a strap and a bottle jack.
I have 2 Service Manuals on the Force I don't need. Were given to me;yours if you want them.
