I am posting this for a friend, but he asked if it was hard to replace his impellers on:

2000
Yamaha
2-stroke 130HP outboards

Model(s)? L130TXRZ

I told him to buy a shop manual, but I'd check here for "tips" in the mean time. I also told him that if he were mechanically inclined to any degree, and compulsive, he could do it correctly.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

With the manual I beleive this is the task for you. Just remember to make sure the water tube is aligned with the water pump sleeve as this is a classic thing to miss your first time, I know I did!!

Good luck and post back.

Re: Impeller Replacement...

Another common mistake is to rotate the impeller into the housing so the fins point the wrong way. The impeller is driven clockwise when viewed from above. Therefore the impeller fins must point backwards as the impeller turns. Some will say it doesn't matter as they will straighten themselves out when the engine is started. This is NOT necessarily true so why not just do it right in the first place.

Re: Impeller Replacement...

The manual is a need, also check the orientation (upper Vs lower side of the impeler) of the old impeler before removing. In my 1991 200 HP Yamaha the impeler has a groove on one of the faces that allow it to be inserted into the "key". The other side of the impeler do not have the groove therefore will not slide over the woodruf key. This remark is clearly stressed on the manual. Not sure if newer engines have the same characteristic. Other thing is not forget to use reccomended lubricant during instal to facilitate the insetion on the shaft and later the pump cover.
I agree 100 w/Upinsmoke to orientate the fins correctly during install.
Just my 2 cents.
Frank
