I've been on this forum and Stingray forums a couple months now and have read some threads about impellers. I never knew boats had them. How would I know if mine is ready for replacement, and is it a difficult/expensive job?

Re: impeller replacment question

looks like it's a genII from looking at a few of his past posts....http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=275764

service manual 14 calls for inspection every 100 hrs or once yearly for the impeller...

my old drive that i have calls for the same. if i go to inspect it. i'm gonna replace it... the early impellers weren't as good as the newer ones i don't see.

my 1 drive. i'm gonna replace yearly...

my buddy had a genII in his last boat... we replaced it last fall. his boat was a 00. the impeller looked pretty good and probably would have lasted longer... pretty good longevity i'd say. he was the 1st owner too... i don't think my buddy ever ran his dry, though i know he operated in the missouri river which has much sand in it... so it did have that abuse.... still looked good...

i'd think if ya've never looked at the impeller, it'd be time to do so on general principles....

as for if it's hard or not.... you be the judge as you know your capabilitys...
look here for the link to find the facts on your drive... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=251571
you need #14 for the drive.....

Re: impeller replacment question

My boat is a 1999 with an alpha one. I just bought it and have no idea what the previous owner did/didn't do. I'm still trying to contact him, I bought it through a third party(this was an insurance repo) I guess it got pretty ugly between the owner and the adjuster. No surprise there, been there with mine after hitting a rock with my other boat a few years back.

Ziggy, great link! thanks for the input, As for my capabilities... I'm not a great mechanic, but a fast learner, the problem I have is I learn by doing something simple and breaking something not so simple:eek:! After that Its something I,m an expert at, if you know what I mean.
