Re: impeller straight instead of curved

BigKash, <br />from my understanding they are supposed to have a little curve in them. Give us more info what year, motor, etc.... I just changed the impellar on my 150 Evinrude V6 and do not remember the one geing curved that came off. Check with a manual if you have one just to be safe. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Good luck Bud! ;)

Re: impeller straight instead of curved

They are supposed to be straight when new. Over time they will develope a "set" with them being curved. The impellor housing is offset to the drive shaft, so as the impellor turns the fins straighten out on the water inlet side and then are forced to bend as they rotate around the other side. As the area between the vanes becomes smaller, as they bend, the water is forced throught the outlet into the water tube to the cooling system of your motor.

BIGKASH, your impeller was 'due'. The old one has 'taken a set'. The vanes on the new one will be straight. The bend in the old one, indicates it has hardened, and formed to the housing. It weas not long for this world. Nice job of catching it in time.
