Hi, is there anyway to test an impeller in the water? Can I put my hand over the impeller hole and feel if there is suction? Thanks

Re: Impeller test

If you think your impeller is causing problems, then it is proba bly old and and requires changing anyway. So just change it and see if it solves your problem.

Have a great day

Re: Impeller test

The boat is in the water so i cant change it. I don't want to run the engine without knowing if the impeller works. So, Is there anyway to test/check the impeller? Thanks

Re: Impeller test

You could pull the hose that comes from underneath the engine to the thermostat housing off. Start her up, if water spews all over the place, she's pumping . . . Good bilge pump test too

Two ways......
1) Pull the water inlet hose where it enters the engine, put it in a bucket to catch the water & start the engine......
Don't run it for more than 20 seconds or so......
You should have a good stream of water & at least gallon +......
2) Plumb a clear hose between the water inlet hose & where it enters the engine.....
Observe the flow as well as excessive air pockets........;)

I suppose you could disconnect the hose comming from the outdrive and run it for a minute.

Problem is if you don't know/or do know that it hasn't been done in the last couple of years,it may fail the next time you start it.Watch your guages.

Re: Impeller test

Thank you. I will try that. This is my first year wtih the boat and was told that the impeller was changed last year.
I just got new mans/risers for both side, both heads had valve jobs, and new gaskets. I going to put her back together tommorrow.

My spark plugs got wet and have been sitting outside the engine; should i replace them ?

You can clean them if they are not pitted, etc.....
I'd replace 'em......:)
