impeller vane question

i have a 5.0 with a alpha 1 out-drive. i just bought the boat and it has sat for a year so i replace the water pump kit.
my question is i did not put all the vanes the same direction and im not sure if i rotated the drive shaft clockwise. will the vane "flip" around and or do i need to pull it back out and face them all in the same direction.

i did test on muffs and temp. seemed fine.

Its usually good practice to put the impeller in and turn the shaft in the correct direction to make sure the vanes flip or are in the correct running direction.

If you have maby one or two vanes not right chances are they will flip and youll be ok but since the water pump wasnt changed in so long I would have made sure that it was correct so you wouldnt be questioning this now. BUT this is the time to ask and not when your on the water.

The other thing you can do is when the motor is running on muffs and you see a nice solid flow of water comming out of the prop and exhaust ports that is a good verification of the water pump doing its job. If you have a speratic flow of water you may want to re check that impellar.

im new to boating and have been trying to read as much as i can before im out on the water. unfortunately i did not read about turning the shaft clock-wise before i did the job. it just doesnt seem like there is enough room in the housing for them to flip.

do they flip one way when in forward and then flip back when in reverse?

i did run it on the muffs for about 15min but i will put them back on and check water flow.

On all 1 thru Alpha I drives, the vanes will flip over, but not on the Alpha I Gen II's.

whether in forward or reverse, the drive shaft only turns one way. Run it and they will seat and stay there.
