Impeller vs. Water pump replace?

Hello. I have a '68 Evinrude 55HP (lower unit at least) and am wondering about recommendations to replace the impeller-only vs. a water pump kit. The motor has not run in many years. Not doubt the impeller is in poor shape, but should I replace more for trouble-free operation?
Also, the impeller (18-3082) is an easily found part. The water pump seems difficult. I found only one reference # for it - 0383682, and just one supplier. Does anyone have another cross-reference # for the pump or kit?

thanks! '58 Dorcett

Re: Impeller vs. Water pump replace?

If it still has the aluminum pump housing, by all means replace it with the newer complete plastic/stainless pump kit. I come up with part number 383682. Should be available from any Johnson or Evinrude dealer.
