I've got a '64 Merc 60 6hp. I've had the motor a year and a half. Ordered a new impeller because the old one fell apart. I took the water pump top cover off and pulled out 5 pieces of the impeller, just the rubber pieces. The metal base of the old impeller is stuck to the driveshaft/impeller shaft. I thought the impeller just slides onto the shaft with ease and the key/pin holds it in place. <br />I've been soaking it in WD40. I locked vise grips to it and tied a rope to the vise grips. I put all of my weight onto it and it just won't budge. I've tried prying it out with screw drivers and I am now out of ideas. I guess I may have to completely get the drive shaft out of the lower unit. But I am not sure if I can do this if I cannot get the water pump housing out. I haven't seen any other posts with this problem. I need help.
