impeller ??

hey guys I'm just finishing up a impeller replacement on a 86 200 rude. I have everything done but had a few questions.

1. I can turn the drive shaft by hand, but its a little hard. Just wanted to see how hard it or not hard to turn it's supposed to be? When the impeller was off it turned freely with not problems. Is that normal or did I get a fin stuck in the housing?

2. The last o-ring where is the placement? In the manual it talks about taking off but not putting it back on. I can't remember if it goes at the top of the drive shaft or on the grommet on top of the water pump housing?

THANKS

Re: impeller ??

Is there a groove at the top of the drive shaft? If so, there should be an o-ring in the groove. Many do not have a groove, I don't know about yours.

Re: impeller ??

That impeller is huge in comparison and it is quite stiff when a new one is installed.Did you put the o ring between the cup and the housing? If so the only other oring should go towards the top of the drive shaft about half way down the splines if there is a groove as F_R mentioned.

Re: impeller ??

Did you turn the driveshaft clockwise while lowering the impeller housing over the impeller? I always oil the blades of a new impeller to ease the start up. Put some grease on the splines of the drive shaft too, where that last o ring will be. Also be very careful that you slide the water line nicely into the grommet on top of the impeller housing, if not you will stuff it into the impeller housing blocking water flow to the power head.

Re: impeller ??

Thanks Guys,

I did oil the impeller, and spin is clockwise as I lowered it in to place, I haven't greased the drive shaft yet, saving that for last so I don't get it everywhere.

There is a grove on the top of the drive shaft, but it is under the splines. Sank/F_R does the groove have to be half way down the splines or under them? The only o-ring the can off during disassembly doesn't fit very snug on the top of the drive shaft, but fits snugly on top of the grommet on the drive shaft right above the pump housing.

I'm at work right now I'll see about posting a pic this afternoon.

THANKS
