I am new at this. I purchased a 1996 starcraft 18' bowrider, I think it has a alpha 1 gen II drive with a 4.3l LX. The boat has only 30 hours on it, just wondering in the spring do I replace the impeller or wait until the end of next season. The boat has spent most of it's life on the trailer in a house garage. Should it be replaced because of its age.

Thanks

Yes, it should be replaced because of it's age, more than how many hours. It still sets in the housing all bent over. Probably won't straighten out.
Replace it now. The Gen II impellers should be replaced after 3 or 4 years depending on use.

Re: Impeller

thanks for you quick reply. As I am new at this, is there any other maintance I should do because of its age and lack of use. The Boat is in great shape. Because I an in the great north the boat is in storage and I will have to wait for spring.

Thanks

Hello Skinny,

If that is your e-mail address in your name, then I would change it to something else or the spammers will get hold of it and you will get flooded with spam.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Re: Impeller

Just for a starter, I would change all engine oil & filter, change gear lube, pull the drive and check the gimbal bearing, alignment, and ujoints. Make sure there is no water in it (Use new gasket kit to reinstall drive).
Probably need to change fuel filter and possibly the fuel depending on how old it is.
Click on the link below and download the OEM service manuals for your drive and engine. #14 for the drive, and #18 for your engine. There are maintenance schedule charts in both.

Re: Impeller

How do you change your profile? also the boat was checked over by two differnent marina's. Both said it was in great condition. When the boat was put into storage it was winterized (oil changed, lower unit gear, and some seals and flushed with what ever they flush it with, fuel stabalizer.) Is taking of the lower unit hard. Is it better to store the lower unit of or on. Should I take it to a marina to have all that checked.

thanks

You can go to the User CP link at the top left of the page to change your profile, but you can't change your username. That has to be done by admin.
What do you want it to be changed to, and I can get it done for you in a couple of days.
