Sorry for all the confusion bomb.....<br /><br />Look on the starboard side of the engine where the shift lever shaft goes under the lower carb. You should see a clip pin. Pull this pin out and push the shaft towards the port side. This will release the shift rod. It will help to disconnect the shift cable.

OBJ,<br />Thanks again,you guys figured it out in the end(you always do)....I'll probably give the impellor change a whirl this weekend but I'm gonna use the old impellor one more time tomorrow afternoon = the seatrout and redfish in Charleston have gone crazy and I know where a few of them are hanging out.<br /> Some of them may have an alergic reaction to cornmeal and grease in my kitchen tomorrow night.

hello<br /> the 88 70 has a bolt under the lower carb facing the port side. it must be removed for shift dissconnect. the 91 90 has a clevis pin on the stbd side of the shift linkage pull the pin and push the shaft in. you may find it easier to remove the shift cable to do this.

Thanks rodbolt,<br /><br />I could not wait. had to get the boat into the water for the 1. time since Charley. Started after 2 secs cranking, T&T working fine. Kife is good again. Now the waterpumps turn is next weekend.

hello<br /> I could be wrong on the 70. I looked at mine and found its an 86 model. but either way. it either has a clevis pin(not a cotter pin) or a bolt. if its a clevis it will be on the stbd side just below and outside the lower carb stbd side. if its a bolt the head will face port and be dead below the bottom carb.

rodbolt & boatsrfun,<br />The fishing was too good over the weekend to get to my impellor project.Trout,redfish,flounder and aven some sheepshead.I love fall fishin'!!<br /> My 70 hp is the 1988 with the bolt I'll have to wrestle out.It sounds like the clevis pin would be easier..oh well. <br />
