I'm going to change the impellor using the kit with gaskets etc.

The manual says that I need Quicksilver perfact seal, I'm having a hard time finding it. Is the perfact seal just liquid gasket?

Lastly, came one replace the water pump face seal with out the tool?

Re: Impellor change question

I used the permatex aviation gasket sealer recommended by Don and others. Worked good. Only problem was when I dropped a bolt into the container and had to fish it out. I found it at a local ACE hardware store. The bigger stores and automotive stores didn't have it.

Also, if you can't find it I think you'll be alright without using any. When I took my pump apart, there wasn't any on the old gasket, which was installed at the factory and reinstalled at the dealer (long story). I talked to numerous mechanics who said they didn't use it there and Don says his manual doesn't even say to use it. Also the counter-rotatin manual doesn't mention it as Don pointed out. hope this helps.

Re: Impellor change question

I had the same question for my merc dealer. I was going to do everything "by the book". He said if you really want the "Quicksilver Perfect Seal" he reaches to stock shelf and pulls out a quart can, and tells me that is the only way they can get it!

But he also told me not to waste my money, that in all the impellor replacements they do, they never use any sealant.
