Re: impellor change

Okay, I took the exhaust housing off and maybe I found the problem. The woodruff key is missin in action.
And as well, it does not look like the key that is in the book. A normal woodruff key for my impellor is about 1/8" wide and the place on the shaft is wide, just about the width of the shaft itself.
Why are there different sizes for the impellor and the shaft?
Can I buy just a woodruff key itself.
Can anyone explain this to me, please.
We are supposed to go boating today.
Without the woodruff key the impellor keeps on spinning right?
Thanks in advance.
I have pictures I took, but don't know to add it to my message.
If someone can tell me how to download my pics, I will post them, then it will be easier to explain.
Thanks...
Bro Chris...

Chris,
You're exactly right, without that 'key', the impeller won't spin in the housing , hence, no water pump action. The pin , when installed, jams against the flat on the drive shaft, locking the impeller and drive shaft together.

Hi Bro Chris
By the woodruff key, I take it you mean the impeller drive pin?

If that is left out, the impeller won't spin at all. You have to position the drive pin on the flat section of the drive shaft, then lower the impeller onto the plate making sure that the drive pin goes into the recess in the impeller hub. You'll know if you've got it right by turning the drive shaft by hand clockwise, the impeller should turn with the drive shaft.
