agree looks like a lot of Crack House i have seen. they eat then smoke, and smoke till they are broke, the either prostitue, or steal. the eat, and smoke till they are broke again.

I don't see any real signs of drug use in this house. I think it's a clear sign of mental illness or severe depression, this person needs help.

I noticed there is no beer, wine or liquor bottles anywhere that I could see. So it makes it even stranger. Would not be surprised if this is the result of a mental condition that is not being addressed.

Hard drug addicts (crack or speed)wouldn't have that much food scattered everywhere. They usualyy eat once a day or every other day before they start getting high. Mental illness is probably a stronger factor here than any drug use, but I won't rule drugs out completely. I have known alot of people over the years that are very successful and normal - until they stop taking their Meds. Once off the meds, you never know what you might get.

Then where is their family or care giver, County services ,etc.
Why is it we always have to give an excuse.

I'm a slob because I'm mentally ill.

I killed my neighbor because my diabetes acted up.

I ran from the cops in my SUV and killed two little girls because I didn't want to go to jail.


I am sick and tired of excuses; mental,physical,financial, being given for the poor choices that people make.

You'll have to excuse my post. It's not my fault. I suffer from diabetes,anuerisms,hypertension,hypercholesterol, and a stenosis and I'm drinking bourbon and coke as I type. So you can plainly see that nothing is ever my fault.

I have watched a couple of documentaries on this type of situation.
Always held the views expressed above.
What surprised me in both was the fact it is some sort of mental disorder...one case was an elderly mother with a daughter maybe 50-60yrs.
They didn't want to change, and when authorities cleaned the place up completely, they just repeated the same again.
The cost of the clean-up was not paid for so authorities just add it to the unpaid rates bills, so when the home is sold, the City get paid first.
I think it is some sort of disease, because the people I saw were not drug...alcohol...etc users....more dirty hermits come people who seemed quite odd.
They just keep doing it all their life.
One comment I recall.....30yrs ago these people would be in a mental institution.

Mental illness or not... It's unsanitary... Therefore something needs to be done about it. There is no good reason that any house should look like this. It comes down to just plain laziness.

I have seen this in India (a country I will NEVER go back to). I was then sent to the poorest region of Japan... The difference was amazing. The only difference in the people was laziness... Only laziness would allow you to be content to live in a filth heap.... If you want to call laziness a mental illness, great, good for you! But not in my book!

Wow! Those pics make me cringe! My cluttered mess looks like a palace compared to that I don't feel so bad now. IMO, that person needs help, it definitely is a mental problem. I did some plumbing work for a woman on Long Island yrs ago, that was almost that bad. I think the only reason she hired me, is I was a stranger, and she didn't want to let anyone else in to see the mess.

My life long mentaly ill brother died this year in march and if you thing the family can do much beyond visit and take them out to dinner once a week to see that there as OK as they can be then your living in a dream world

A couple of friends of mine have a cleaning person that comes in every couple of weeks, and they clean their houses up before she gets there so they won't be embarassed, lol.

Who said anything about excuses? Are you blaming family members (if any), or of course, the government, for not assisting this person, if he/she cannot take care of themselves?

Legally, no one can do anything to this person, if they are not an apparent threat to themselves or others and maybe no one knew about the filth.

I suppose that the homeless guy, that stands there and screams at the birds, just needs to pull himself up by the bootstraps, get a job and everything will be all right.
