Question regarding any outboard, but since I have an Evinrude I figured I'd post here...

I have been having some issues with the V4 and I have narrowed it down to the VRO pump...but before I replace it or convert it to a regular pump and pre-mix I had questions regarding hard starting issues when in a water tub vs muffs..

When I start the engine on muffs, she catched quickly and seems to operate as it should, with some minor shaking (think i am missing here and there, will investigate)...all in all she doesnt seem to have any hesitations.

In a barrell, however, she seems to take longer to start. When she starts she coughs and sputters but with a little assitance in throttle she does eventually stay running and idles ok.

On my last outing when I had issues starting the engine (on the ocean)..it exibited the same rough starting and that time I could not get her to start again and eventually towed in.

So my question is this... is there a major difference when starting with or without back pressure from water?... Are there specific things to look for if this situation persists?...

I have ordered carb rebuild kits since its been some time...I have to do a few more checks on the feul pump before condeming that as well..

Any insight or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

no back pressure on exhaust in barrel or water, that simple. has to have idle set in the water and in gear.

Tash...you are saying that there is no difference??.. regardless of in the water vs muffs??

I assumed the back pressure would have some affect..ok.. so I need to keep looking at this then..

Thanks
