I think that BOB is saying that it should not be done. I Strongly disagree! There is a marina that is close by me that specializes in doing this and they do it to about 25 boats per month. My neighbor has a boat that has been redone to a OB from a I/O. I don't know that it is really a issue if you do it right. Don't be afraid if its done right you will be fine!!!

I agree that it can be done. My #1 concern would be balancing the load and the off shore sponson is the answer to that problem. Check around for North River and Custom Weld boats in your area. They often are equiped with simple but effective systems. You can get some design ideas from them.

Bear in mind that most of these types of rigs need a 25" (XL) shaft engine.

the floatation brackets seem to be the best bet to correct any balance problems.
