Well - I have "crossed-over" to the OMC camp.

I found a '99 90hp Johnson (60 degree) - carb'ed motor in great shape, fully inspected with even 130 compression.

The purchase price is much lower than the equivalent Merc's that I had looked at and even after the re-rig still comes to a shade less. I guess that reflects resale value for OMC's from that period.

I will have it for a while so that doesn't bother me - as long as she runs good.

Ironhill - Good choice! I think you will be very satisfied with your decision. I've got a 1995 Evinrude 90 hp looper (essentially the same motor) and couldn't be happier... Good luck with yours!
