I read my other post? I am confused what do i need to read?? I am aware that i push the button the go forward and reverse, I have had a few outboards but this control is so tight after about half way in forward, and it wont unlock no matter what i do to go into reverse. i took the thing apart to see if the rod inside that goes to the unlock button for the drive and all checked out, i wish i could actually talk to someone via phone about this....its so hard to describe whats going on with it and all the boat shop say "ya bring it in we will be happy to take a look at it" ya and rip my pockets wide open. This thing is killing me i cant sleep cause i want to figure this damn thing out. what would cause this? why wont it start in neutral, it has to be just forward of neutral in drive to crank and then it only clicks like it has a dead battery when i have 2 brand new optimas and all my wires are clean and tight, bad starter relay?

Ayuh,... Have you disconnected the cables from it,..??
It's more likely the cables are Tight, rather than the controller...

The neutral start switch needs to be readjusted to neutral, instead of slightly forward...

As for the No start,... It's Not the controller... It could be anything from the batteries to the starter, or either 1 of them...
More than likely, corroded wire ends,... Somewhere...

a good place to start is the adults only thread. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288430
look at #4. how the shift interupt system works.
also look and read the service manual. the adj. procedure for the cables. i think you'll find it in s/m #6. starting on pp 2A18. keep in mind there's adj. for the shift cable going out to the drive. and adj. for the remote control at the helm. really read this section good. i mean, sentence by sentence. ea. sentence has relevant info in it that you must follow. it is difficult to understand. i've read that section over and over and over. if i even think about touching my cables, i'll read it again too. it's not straight fwd.

won't start in neutral. there's the shift interrupt sw. which is used to kill ign for a split second to be able to shift out or fwd or rev. back to neutral. and the neutral safety switch in the remote that prevents it from starting in fwd or rev. and a safety kill switch which prevent starting under any circumstance. any of these items will prevent starting by disconnecting the ign. or start circuit.

When its in gear should you be able to spin the prop? I took the top of the outdrive cover off and was looking at the gears while it was "in" (dont really know if its in forward because it just doesnt feel right when push controller forward) gear the gears on the top were not moving at all.

in:
fwd = prop locks ccw. ratchets cw
neutral = prop freewheels both directions, no sound or feel
rev. = prop locks cw. ratchets ccw.

imho, i'd be careful just taking stuff apart w/o reading the service manual. you'll end up in with more trouble than ya started with.

Re: In need of a quicksilver control

I havent taken anythig apart yet, I just took the handle off of the throttle control to look at the rod that unlocks the handle to move in forward reverse. I read the service manual last night for about 2 hours and still kinda confused but i am going to check for the 9/16 space in the rod for proper play in the cables. It just feels like the cable is caught up in the outdrive because everything is so dang tight in that cable.

Like Ziggy says - you've really got to stop taking things apart out of mere curiosity. This "learning as you go" process is going to end up costing you a lot of money.

On the plus side - you may learn some things along the way. It might turn out to be an expensive education however!

i dont know if any of you have taken apart the front cover of the throttle control but its pretty simple a monkey with a screw driver could do it! No like i ripped the hole thing off and starting ripping the motor out guys! Give me some credit i have been a diesel mechanic for a few years so i know a thing or two about some things its just the cable thing i am not used to, i am used to drive by wire.

From your description:

I had assumed you meant you took the top of the outdrive off - not the controller.
