Will the following diagram work? please ignor why i chose to use the over the sink light fixture as an option. The undercabinet lights have 2 wires to them that are both white. Trying to hook it up to a standalone dimmer switch.

Here is a diagram that will work. You do need fuses, and they are not shown. I don't know where you got that pic from, but it is not right. This is not really enough to do it either without a basic understanding of electricity.

Please give a little more info on what you are trying to do, and I may be able to make it more clear.

Im sorry i shoulda said i dont want the wall switch in the picture just was trying to show that the over counter light is hooked up to a switch.

I just want to hook up the puck lights to the standalone dimmer switch. i already ran the +,grd, neutral wires up in the attic from the dimmer switch.

Sorry, I was looking at it as a 12v system. I see now, it is in your house. Let look at it again.

Okay, I'll try this again. The two white wires coming from the lights are hot and neutral. Does not matter which one is which.

TEST3.jpg

There should be a ground terminal on each component. They should all be attached to ground. One wire from each puck light will go to the dimmer, and the other to neutral. Hot to the other side of the dimmer.

Hope this helps.

Are your puck lights 110VAC or 12VDC?

My advice is to use low voltage puck lights so that you aren't running 110VAC around.

Hooking up lights isn't really that complicated...Where is the existing light switch in relation to the new dimmer you want to run? all you need to do is run a 14-2 romex from the switch to the lights...tie the whites together for neutral take a hot(black) leg from an existing switch to the new dimmer then to the new lights...I don't really have a way to draw a picture but I can see it in my head if that helps any lol...

Just remember white is neutral, black is hot, incoming to the switch is the line side and outgoing from the switch is the load...pickup a black on the lineside(before a switch or outlet) of something close to where you want the dimmer, run it to the dimmer then out to the lights...tie the whites together...14 gauge is good for 15amps...I doubt a lighting circuit if overloaded but it doesn't hurt to check....your new lights are probably <1.5 amps...

Are you running loose, single wires through your attic??
if so, not a good idea, and not safe...the Romex cable is the way to go.

I have a bad feeling about this based on the diagrams that you have shown so far.

The latest one looks like you are hooking these lights up in series...also not a good idea.
