In Need of some help

ok im tired of my boat sitting so i need help to come up with a design, way to build a transome bracket..any and all help is greatly appreciated..it's a 15ft jon boat center console with a 88 force 50, the bracket that is currently on the boat had done well but i dont trust it, also the sides of the boat are starting to crack from stress which i will need to have welded, but i need to figure out a way to redo the transome and bracket for it to hold. im real tight on cash, i want to do it the cheapest way possiable but still be right...thanks

the red circle with red line in middle is where the boat is cracking from the stress, its doing it on both side's, and the blue is the bracket that needs redone, it needs to come up higher cause the motor sits too low in the water

I'm not very familiar with jon boats.

Could you mount the outboard directly to the transom using a plate of aluminum for reinforcement and have the gussets rewelded?

Fifty HP on a 15' jon sounds like a bit much. What is the maximum the boat is rated for?

Perhaps that is why it is cracking. I have a 15 1/2 ft aluminum welded bass boat and it is rated for 40HP Maximum. Also, mine is clamped directly on the transom. That bracket adds a substantial offset and with the offset, a lot of torque transfers directly to the transom. Lose the bracket, add a welded aluminum plate to the transom, and bolt directly thru the transom. Look at some newer aluminum bass boats and see how it is done on them.

Get the setback off of it first, they work like a lever and increase the stress on the transom and I am pretty certain that boat isn't rated for anything close to 50 so you are already putting alot of stress on it, as others have said, that is why it is cracking.

Next rebuild the transom, 2 peices of 3/4'' ply sealed with Thompsons, use what is left of the old wood as a pattern, glue them really well and get them in then mount the engine directly to the transom.

it will cost alittle bit but will be alot less than getting a new boat.

Have whoever welds the boat put in some extra bracing.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. ok the stress cracks were there before i put the 50 on, it just made it a little worse, and im sure it's not rated for a 50 (there's no plate) but its a single carb 2 cly and weights around 160pound's..and i cant find anyone to trade for a smaller 25-40?.. i was thinking about losing the bracket and build up the transome with plywood but im not too sure about fiberglassing to aluminum as iv never really done it. im very good at glassin, but will it bond with aluminum like a wood or solid glass boat?

Glass the wood together and then bolt it to the transom, that should make it super strong.

An it isn't the weight of the engine but the torque it puts on the transom that it is rated for, you could ang a 150 on it and it would hold the weight, it is only when you hit the trottle that you woudl have a problem.
