Re: in trouble with the fishermen

Had the same problem here on a narrow channel leading into lake simcoe. Got the police involved a couple times as a result of 'differences of opinion' and now the whole section along the channel is posted no-fishing and is patrolled regularly. They should have kept their mouths shut and just cooperated with the boaters.

8) As usual most of us think we have eminate domain over every publc facility we see, when there is no humility there is usally a very easy solution.

Go and visit whose ever in charge of the faciltiy and register a complaint, harrasment is not taken litely in any public place these day's.............sound's like threating harrasment if you follow my drift...o:)

depending on the type of boat you run, the faster you go the less wake you leave behind, it may be that they actually want you to go faster. Why not approach them close enough to ask the question? If they get agro than you should report them. Everybody has the right to use the waterways, fisherman own boats too!

Re: in trouble with the fishermen

It seems that the guy that yells the loudest is also the same guy that will troll right through the lines of the shore fishermen when fishing from a boat. Rude people are rude whether on shore or not. Here may fish on a narrow channel. Sometimes I fish from a boat and sometimes from shore. Most boats are polite and stay clear of the lines. Often you will see tourists in large cruisers pull right up to the side of the channel where the fishermen are fishing to ask how the fishing is.

How fast were ya going? Maybe slow down, they can see your trying your best! Or put your earphones on and dance to the music! They'll see you can't hear them..and maybe shut up!

How about going up and visiting the fishermen in person and explain the situation with the channel and boating.

Word should get around soon enough.

I wouldn't try to address the issue from the water while boating. Just go park where they do and walk over and address the crowd about the boating/fishishing situation on dry land when they are not mad at you for being too close.

You have the right of way, their actions are impeding boat traffic. I would definately call your local marine law enforcement (should be the Sheriffs department) and confirm, but I cannot think of any situation where people fishing on a dock have say over boat traffic as long as you are moving at the slowest speed you can and still maintain control of the boat, and staying away from the dock. Find out the law, get it in writing, and give them copies the next time you go by. I had to do it with a guy who lives down the creek from me. He thought No Wake meant no wake, and would yell at everyone going by, even though we all were going as slow as possible. Our No Wake law is go as slow as possible while maintaining control, do not exceed 5 mph, and do not generate a wake greater than 4 inches. With some hull designs this is just not possible. Heck, our own sheriffs department boat creates large wakes even at a few mph. This guy thought you could not produce a wake at all. People generally are poorly informed about laws and regulations, they make it up as they go along or just guess without researching anything.

I would ignore them untill someone actually threw something at my boat. Then the rules would be out the window...
The rooster tail would be a thought then!

I think Commander gave you good advice, try to be courteous despite their bad manners....if they get too obnoxious, call law enforcement.
Now for the fun reply. Slow down and ask them how many fish they've caught that day. Their reply will probably be ZERO. Smile and inform them haughtily that the fish are biting like hell where you're going, then throttle it up and rooster tail the SOBs. :)

Re: in trouble with the fishermen

so I bought a new prop, tried it, didnt work. coming back in I picked up two fishing lines and sinkers and whatever else was on it, chipped the paint right off the prop. The guy wont take the prop back (or only for half price) because he says with al the paint chips he wont be able to sell it as new again. I dont know if it was intentional, I have not had an issue with this guy yet, but i remember him loking at me as I went by and ipicked up his line. This was all the way over the channel, wigth 10 ft between me and the other dock.

Geez
"Can't we all just get along?"

I agree with ignore unless/untill something
escalates the situation.

Sounds like a really narrow passage.

So this fishermans line you wrapped was
so far across the channel that the fisherman should have been on the other bank?
What a moron, his people skills are only
outdone by his fishing skills.

A video camera might come in handy
its the best reporter I have ever seen

Do ya know how to throw a rooster tail with the motor tilted up? ;)

Can you explain the procedure of that for me?

You tilt your engine up untill half your prop is out the water and then you give it full throttle, your boat will stand still but it will spray one hell of a rainstorm .....

Better yet, get a jet boat with a 500 HP motor, cover the boat I.D. numbers, position the jet output at the offending loudmouths and NAIL it!!!!!!!!!!!, pull the boat out at another location.

This one fat sob even threatened to throw sinkers at me while I was trying to manage my boat in the wind and current. Whats's the proper procedure on this? I was thinking nex time I'll do a wide open run once free of the no wake zone (just kidding) or I could just yell back profanities, but I'm not the only one this happens to

if they are threatening to throw stuff at you/boat I would not hesitate at all to do a WOT throttle run even if you are in a NO wake zone as long as you aren't going to damage anything, if someone is throwing rocks at your car are you going to drive at 10mph if that is the speed limit or speed up to 30mph to get away from the damage, and possible injury?
