CFO94: Thats how to spell relief!! WARRANTY...Thats also how to spell GUILT on the rebuilder's part as well. Maybe you should nail him for re+re as well...LOL. I'm not sure which, but in one of the 351's (windsor or cleveland) it was possible to install the bearing out of synch with oil hole. Maybe its that simple!!! Well I sure learned something. Never knew of this exhaust passage crack till I did some diggin'. See, everyone's a winner on this site!! I'd love to take you up on that fishin offer!! Maybe someday!!
;)

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

One thing that still perplexes me is that the rod bearings behind the rear main showed no signs of damage. If the rear main wasn't getting oil would the back two rod bearings be getting oil?

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

Just wanted to know. I would have liked to seen the oil pump, and pickup tube. 40 psi oil pressure seems low in rebuildt engine. Looks like you are on your third engine right? If so I would run engine without transmission 3/4 hours, pull pan and plast-guage the bearings.

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

If I remember right, the rear main and the second rear main both supply oil to the rear con rods. Thats why its concieveable that only the rear main failed. 40 psi is a little low as clanton says....who knows what size the crank journals where!
I'll bet they'll be more careful this time around.
One last thing I forgot to mention.....the main oil galleries have a small plug at the rear of the engine under the intake manifold. If this plug is left out for cleaning purposes, it would lower oil pressure.(but again......40psi is on the low side but not unreasoneable. who knows how accurate gauge is)
If it were me, I'd build a 'pig' and do the drip test. No lubed engine goes out of here without this being done.

Oil pump was supplied each time with the engine. The pick-up tube was the original, thoroughly cleaned before installation. Rest assured, WE will also be extra careful this next time.

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

Well, my shop guys talked to the factory guys today. They said they will stand behind the engine. Said the crank had a bur on it. Must have been a pretty big bur to score the whole bearing. I would think a bur would just wear a line in one spot. Correct me if I'm wrong.
My shop guys didn't buy it...Now I'm not sure what to to. Looking for advise. Should I ask for my money back or take another chance.
Clanton. Do you run a shop? Do you rebuild I/O's. I still have the original core, although its been sitting in the weather.
Schematic, you're too far away.

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

you said you put two engines in this thing. Were they the same engine that had been repaired twice, or did you have the same failure on two different engines with two different cranks?

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

It was definitely two different engines with two different cranks. We didn't send back the one we had until we had received the replacement. This is why I'm reluctant. I have no confidence that we'll get a good one now if they don't tell me they were doing something wrong and have corrected the problem. The fact that they're standing behind the warrantee indicates they found a problem on their part. I'm just not sure about this bur.

Re: INBOARD HEAD-SCRATCHER

I don't buy the burr........they're covering up an embarassment. Probably safe on the next one........I'm sure they're not that stupid....are they? I'd ask for some restitution for your wasted labour, and some assurance on the next replacement. That ought to make em squirm and possibly come up with the truth!!
