Hi again, this is Bill with the mako hull problem, but now I have another consideration. I recently aquired (free!) a 1983 Galaxy bowrider with an i/o (motor and outdrive shot) I remove all and clean up the boat. Looks pretty nice ,hull excellent electrnics work, roller trailer. The transom is rotted but I am replacing. I was thinking about putting a setback bracket and a GT100 hp on the back(setback manual jackplate 6'') and sell my 1969 Mako. I was never a huge fan of Galaxy but this one seems really nice, more family friendly and structually sound. I have got to start focusing on one project but I just can,t seem to focus (must be the heat).Maybe again I'll just save this stuff for the winter pojects and go out on more charters . We went out on the Tautoga in Orient and limited out on bas, 3 of which went to over 40lbs.what a thrill! Anyway some feedback would be greatly appreciated,Thanks Bill!

i/o were not built to handle the weight and stress of a outboard, the i/o mounts basically is supported by the stringers. when replacing the transom you will have to take this into consideration and beef it up pretty well, plus with set back, adds addition stress on the mounting points. By the time all is said and done, you will be happier and heavier in wallet if you just buy another boat designed for an outboard.

One other thing to consider- I have a Galaxy 22 ft. Walkaround with and I/O. The thing has a horrible ride. Pounds real bad and If there's an kind of breeze you get totally soaked. Yes it's a solid boat, but on a rough day it's no fun at all.
