inboard v outboard

My Current pride & joy is a 23 foot royal sea, powered with a 1987 -180hp inline 4 clyinder inboard, The motor is orginal & has served me well, but i,m thinking it is time to repower.

Currently i,m leaning toward twin 90hp yamaha'a outboards.

Several issues i am having problems finding answer's to: Will this application seriously effect the stability of my boat? The current inboard being low in the hull provides very good stability. i'm concerned about the weight being directly on the transom.will i gain or lose speed with this application?

Any input as always will be appriciated in helping making this decision.

I'd stick with the inboard...the boat was designed to be an inboard, and converting to OB is a big project with unsure results (center of gravity issues). Plus two outboards, while they give good performance and redundancy, will cost much more than a single inboard...

BTW is this a straight shaft inboard or an I/O...I can see some people wanting to get away from I/Os in high fouling salt water areas but if I had a straight inboard no way would I want outboards and double or triple my repower cost.....

Your best bet would probably to get another boat with outboards on it. It's VERY expensive to modify the back of any boat to accommodate outboards....and the result is a boat that with far money in it that it's worth!
