Inboard wire from drive box

I just purchased an 87 Supra with 351 engine inboard. There is a wire coming from a terminal on the drive box that is not connected to anything. What is it and where should it connect?

You're going to need a lot clearer explanation of what you are talking about than that, even a picture would help.
I've worked on boats for a living for more years than I care to admit, and I've never heard of a "drive box".

It is the transmission or gearbox. There is only one wire involved and it terminates nowhere.

If it is a BW trannie,there should be two wires.One should be for a netural switch and the other one should be for temp reading.The one on top is for temp reading.

Since it looks like a sending unit and I get no change in continuity through the wire to ground when shifting, I will assume it is a temp switch. Thanks Prock.
