Today i went out on the boat with my dad and fiance. We had a good time, but i did notice a lot more people out than normal. Not thinking anything of it we came back to the ramp to pull out and there must be 25 people standing on the ramp with tubes. so i wait and i wait and i wait 30 minutes they fiddled around untill i decided that i was just going to back the trialer in as the ramp is wide enough for two boats. As i am trying to back it in they are letting their kids run around on the ramp and all around the truck. What is wrong with people??????

Their off in their own little world. I ran into the same thing one sunday morning while a chunky dunking was going on at the local ramp. I just started backing up and got a lot of nasty looks for inturputing them.

I think most non-boaters don't understand that a boat launch ramp is for,,, well...

LAUNCHING BOATS!

:rolleyes::D

No, it's not a fishing pier, kiddie pool, dog run, etc, etc.

ya went to the ramp just a couple weeks ago. about twenty folks and kids were on the ramp. they were all of forign decent. had shoes off walking in water and some were taking pictures. i got plug in straps off ect and just began backing in. they just stared. another couple young guys pulled up and i just smiled as i got out of truck and shook my head. they rolled down the window and said were backing in. they headded to 3-4 cars piled in and left.

another time a few years ago i was unstrapping and a bass fisherman was flipping lures along the rocks by the ramp. as i was finishin up heading to truck he trolled right over the ramp flipping lures. i put it in reverse and held brake and rolled a foot or two. i was watching the mirror. he just kept casting like i wasnt there. about 30 seconds and my blood was 103 degrees and i snapped. let off brake and hit the gas. he almost fell out of the boat when he gunned the trolling motor. at 260 6' he never said much.;) lmao

Re: inconsiderate people.....

Two years ago, we had the same thing -- there had to be 20 people on a dock that feels crowded with 4 on it. I didn't let their fishing stop me. I motored right through. My godfather, passed away when I was 12, but I remember him saying once -- "If'n I'm gonna be pi$$ed, they might as well be too." :)

Saturday, it was SO windy when we came into the landing. My wife, 17 and 15 year old daughters held on to the pontoon as I went to get the truck and trailer. When I came down the hill, the pontoon was on the other side of the dock, backwards, and there was a dog on it that my 15 year old was trying to get off the 'toon... The owner let it run around, it jumped on the boat, and with the wind... created such havoc that two of them couldn't hold it. Two guys in a boat on the other side of the dock, JUST SITTING THERE WATCHING... no help? People, come on.

Then, yesterday -- line to use the ramp was 2 long, I'm next in line, waiting patiently... truck moves outta the way, I'm ready to pull in, when the guy that followed me into the state park, pulled past me like there was a fire, and put his boat in. I was stunned -- others at the landing were kinda low talking -- "did you see that just happen?" So... I'm born with a short fuse, and I know it.... Neither the driver, nor his buddy would look at me, thankfully. While he was backing down, I pulled up, missed his front bumper by a few inches. His buddy was holding the boat by the dock -- after the truck moved (which I didn't give him much room) I STARTED BACKING DOWN THE RAMP. The buddy had to jump in the boat, and move it... I was just amazed at what we had just witnessed. Everyone is in such a hurry to get to the water... that common sense and manners go out the window? The commotion is long gone, as we're pulling away, I look back, and the ramp is absolutely empty. Not a soul.

I swear I have seen girls sunbathing on towels and chairs..............ON THE RAMP! I think some folks think "why are all these people launching boats on the concrete beach?"...........My local lake has a gravel parkinglot at the ramp and lately some idiots (most likely young ones) Seem to enjoy doing donuts in the gravel late at night. They must be driving big 4x4s because parts of the p-lot are really rutted and bumpy. I hope they catch the perps. and make them fix it the old fashioned way.........w shovels and rakes......in the hot sun.

i grew up in the town where this ramp is located and there isnt but maybe 100 people that live in this town. but come warm weather there is never a place to park. i agree with mommicked i never have this problem when im putting the boat in to go duck hunting!!! the one thing that amazes me i saw last year a guy put his boat in and just pulled his truck straight off the ramp and parked it while he was out fishing. No one else could use the ramp because the guy was so close. i've found that it's usually not other boaters that give at you problems usually it's the people who are either tubing or just sitting next to the water.

We have those problems around here too. Yeah, Why are you putting your boat in in our fishing/sunbathing spot. One girl, laying right in the middle of a , say 4x8' wooden dock asked if she was in the way....geez.

There seems to be something about a boat ramp that brings the worst out in people. Those same boaters that are inconsiderate at the dock will likely be friendly and helpful out on the wwater. Go figure.

I would have been severely tempted to let the air out of all four of his tires.

I have seen a few park like that and they often find their truck at the end of a long set of drag marks, snickers

Re: inconsiderate people.....

I personally have drug two vehicles out of the way due to incosiderate people parking in the way. The first time it happened some idiot parked their car half blocking the ramp access driveway. After asking around to everyone in the area, no one knew whos car it was. So I hooked a chain to it and drug it off the road.

The second time was at a public ramp. My family and I had gone out early and I nosed into a parking spot facing a small ditch. I was glad we got such a great parking spot as I could just back straight out and down the ramp without having to circle the lot. Upon our return I was shocked to find a guy parked sideways blocking me and five other trucks into our parking spots. One other guy was there cussing as I approached. He informed me he had been waiting almost an hour to get out. I walked around and asked some guys fishing nearby from the shore who told me that they noticed when a young guy parked the truck there and took off in a wake board boat a few hours ago.

I dropped my trailer, drove through the ditch, and drug both truck and boat trailer across the lot, across the road and into the ditch on the side of the road.

To heck with people so self centered that others needs don't matter. These are the same types who would see someone on the side of the road and laugh at their misfortune instead of stopping to see if they could help...

That is awesome !!If I were at the lake when you wanted to drag people out the way I would assist ya in a heartbeat. Here in Texas there is no fishing or swimming on the ramps. The game wardens and army COE stay on top of us. It does'nt suprise me , people have no maners, they just suck at life lol...

Re: inconsiderate people.....

We have a lake here near me that was a canal feeder lake. The canals are still there for the most part we were heading to the Gas station to get some stuff and 2 guys were fishing in the canal. Its no wake speed through there of course and they just kept their lines in the water. THe canal isnt very wide when people have docks on each side of it. So on the way back through we were closer to the other side. As we came near the guys fishing that still left their poles in the water we cut their lines with the prop. you could tell they were pissed.

I'm sure they were (even though they deserve it) but keep in mind that fishing line can also pop your prop off or break lower unit seals. Maybe not with light freshwater tackle but it's a problem with heavy saltwater line. But before you pull up your motor to check, get out of range of their sinkers.

Re: inconsiderate people.....

One thing I have learned is that most people who cause all of this drama at the dock are not intentionally being jerks. They just don't know any better or think it's no big deal. What I do is kindly explain to someone what is proper dock etiquette and why. If they give me crap or act like they know what they are doing I leave it at that.

My kids have taught me that while it's human nature to resist someone who is trying to tell you how to do something, the next time when they are not being watched by you they will do the right thing.

As far as parking your trailer and blocking someone in. That just plain old sucks. I'd call the sheriff to come ticket the truck before I'd drag there rig into a ditch, but I wouldn't say anything about it if I saw someone else drag there rig off.

At the Gravely Point Ramp next to Reagan National Airport you can expect to have multible families sitting all over your truck, and trailer when you come back off the water -they watch the planes come, and go. Have you noticed their are no signs ( I have never seen one )
that says " the ramp is for launching, and retriveing watercraft only" or words to that effect. I don't think the people at Gravely are inconsiderate; I think they are plain stupid, and have no idea what edicate is. I don't use that ramp on weekends anymore for fear of going to prison for the rest of my life!

Well if it's any consolation the idiots are winning, with full support of the government btw. The government likes idiots. Easy to control.

Ya I too used to believe people behaved like aholes simply out of ignorance. Now I know better. Finally realized it was a school of thought passed down from generation to generation of welfare recipients ...?
