I saw a bumper sticker that sums it up:

"Really, if you think about it, most people suck"

I guess it may be one of the benefits to having the invasive species inspections, our ramps in Colorado this year are never cluttered up with swimmers many many Park Rangers keeping things moving pretty well, less then proficient launchers and retrievers on the other hand.....don't get me started LOL

However I still enjoy a nice relaxing day watching the ramp!!

When splashing my CC for the first time earlier this week I saw something I've never seen before...
This guy launches his boat, then just drives his boat away, LEAVING HIS TRUCK AND TRAILER ON THE MIDDLE OF THE RAMP for a good 40 minutes as he does donuts at 20MPH in a 5MPH zone! We were standing around scratching our heads. I noticed his reg. expired in 07...this guy was full of win.

My brother is in law enforcement...
He said shortly after getting into this line of work he came to the sad realization that " your average citizen is an ignorant azz redneck "

In the summer i find it best to use a pay for use ramp. A $5.00 fee seems to be enough to keep the Dumb azzes away. One of the ramps we use has a year pass for $125.00, well worth it. Less problems with thieves in the parking lot as well.

Joe your Brother is not mistaken, I came to that very same realization not when I went into Law Enforcement but when my wife made the comment at the ramp recently

LOL :D

It's really depressing when you think about it. If the average person is an idiot, then half the population is dumber than that.

One of my favorites happened last year at one of the lakes we like to frequent. We got to the ramp and realized a very expensive truck with a very nice Ranger Boat trailer decided that when there were no more spots, he would park dead center in front of the ramp. Literally in the lane, trailer, truck and all and he was nowhere to be seen. The truck/trailer clearly belonged to a pro fisherman and it was riddled with nasty notes.

Then, yesterday -- line to use the ramp was 2 long, I'm next in line, waiting patiently... truck moves outta the way, I'm ready to pull in, when the guy that followed me into the state park, pulled past me like there was a fire, and put his boat in.

A buddy of mine said that happened to him once. They waited until the jerk parked, then pulled his plug and dropped it in the water.

Re: inconsiderate people.....

people are dumb, i used to think it was just the people who didnt have boats but i realize that it's not limited just to the non boating comunity now....... i had the best time ive had in a long time a few weekends ago i took some friends and my fiance out on the river to a nice sandbar and we were all swiming. i must have watched 7 or 8 boats hit the very same sandbar that we were sitting on. a couple of them never let off the throttle, just wide open spewing sand and water the whole way.

you do realize, i am going to steal her quote.................best ever!!

i usually stick to quiet ramps where the idiots do NOT go.............and it usually works 99.95% of the time.

Re: inconsiderate people.....

I've been to Gravely Point Ramp a few times with my sis-in-law to launch her jet skis and yes they do put signs there, but they rarely last for more than a day before they are torn down and thrown in the water. The absolute worst time to launch and retrieve is in the late afternoon. You would think you are in Mexico! Out of control kids running all over the place and actually splashing around and swimming at the end of the ramp. If you try to be nice and ask them to move they parents look at you like you have a third eye or you get the standard "no hable ingles".
After dealing with this for a few trips, I got where we would prep the skis then start backing down the ramp with the horn blaring. Let me tell ya they "hable" that! That place is an absolute zoo!

Re: inconsiderate people.....

I'm thinking very serious about going ahead an buying a yearly boat launch pass at the lake that's close to me, it's only $30 bucks for a year and is security gated. The ramp I've been using is free and only 4 miles from my house, the paid ramp is around 6 miles, but the free one attracts the same crowds you guys have been talking about, kids running around in the way swimming off the ramp and dock. Also the boat dock has a sign "no fishing from dock" but they pay no mind to that. Last week I was coming into the ramp and some guy had his two kids out there with a waverunner demoing it for a young couple thinking of buying it. They kept running out to the buoys marked "no wake" and back to ramp, you guessed it causing wakes, it took me three try's before I could line up straight with trailer to load our pontoon boat. Consideration there's a lot of them could care less until it happens to them. Now that I think about it I believe that $30 will be worth it.
