Re: Increasing RAM on my PC

Headhunt: I found a sheet of paper that tells me: Micro-ATX motherboard: Intel 810/Integrated 3D Video. Does that help? Further on the system sheet it says MICRO ATX S/145 W P/S

Re: Increasing RAM on my PC

No apologies for not knowing. That is what a board like this is good for. Everybody (almost) knows something. If you follow the directions my earlier post, you should see exactly what you need. The price is going to be around $34. They have some more expensive but I have always had good luck buying the cheapest.I am not a high performance computer so I don't push the memory hard. If you buy the same thing from the computer chain stores you will pay $50+.

Thanks nothreat: I think I found what I needed. I'm going to watch Monday night football and probably order the RAM in the morning. Thanks for the help and not treating me like a total no-nothing. Thanks again to all for their suggestions.

Glad to help. They usually ship in a couple of days. Where in Indiana are you? I live 25 miles south of Indy - Franklin.

Re: Increasing RAM on my PC

One more question: I have two memory cards, one is 32MB PC100 SDRAM and the other is 64MB PC 100 SDRAM. Would I pull both cards out and replace with a 256MB card or just pull one card out to replace with the updated RAM? There is no other slot to add a new card.

Re: Increasing RAM on my PC

We got about 14 inches in Franklin so I feel your pain. I would just pull both of the old ones and put in the single 256. I have had a lot of trouble mixing memory sizes on old motherboards. Won't hurt anything, just won't work. You can try to put the 64 in. I would put in the 256, boot it up in to make sure it is happy and them power down. Unplug the pc before you mess with the memory. I have never had a problem, but they recommend you do this. You should put the 256 in the primary slot. It will be marked as slot one or something like that - very small print on the MB or pointed out in your MB documentation. Put the 64 in slot two. You have 100MHz memory, but the 133MHz should just clock down and be happy. You can't go the other way, but this should be okay. Good luck.

You are getting close. You have a Soyo Motherboard but the number you gave is not the model #. Check out this link. http://www.soyo.com.tw/products/sel...l&formfactor=Micro+ATX&submit.x=29&submit.y=7

There are only 4 Soyo Motherboard listed on this page. Did you see any of these numbers on your board?

I would pull out both memory cards and put in two new 128mb or two new 256mb sticks. First you must find out the model # on your mother board.

Make sure your what ever your using whether it is PC100, PC133, PC2100, etc... that is match. Directron is the best place for memory, at least for me.

Re: Increasing RAM on my PC

The Intel chipset you have uses the PC100 memory module(s). you can also use the PC133 modules as they are rated faster but are backward compatible.
I would suggest you obtain eith 2 256meg modules or 1 256 meg module. The i810 also uses system memory for video. So you can have 256 megs installed and only show 250 megs as 8 are used by the video.

Newegg is THE best site for stuff only if YOU know what you want. They ship fast and you can always return something if it is not working or right for you.

I hate to say this but you might want to get a cheap new computer.

1. If you want to play newer games.
2. Will be faster on the web with DSL.

THIS is the article I wrote and got paid for.
