Re: Inflatable seveylor caravelle 5

Is there any way you can put a fishing rod holder on it? Like some sticky pad that can hold the holder?

If its a pvc rod holder you can glue it to tube being same material, will need to use a 2 part glue to have a good fixation, you could physically install a bimini but useless on that thin sib model, will achieve excessive tube flexing due to lack of rigidity, bimini are not that light weight as one would imagine. Sell that first starter sib and buy what comes immediately after like a Mariner 4. Lots of nice add on gadgets on this same nflatable forum.

Thanks man.. I just want to start off with the floor but nervous if it could puncture or pop the main floor In the bottom.. But I'll make sure to sand off the sides real good and put the insulations..anyways thanks!

Floor should not be a issue. Mine was just the wood with slightly sanded edges with ducktape aligning the edges. Then carpet glued and stapled like a wrap up to 2 inches around thr bottom side. No need for pipe insulater on my boat. Good luck.

Depending on how you decide to seal/paint it.... $50-60 should be more than enough

8 x 4 ft plywood ($23-28, depending on thickness). Now you can use a hand saw or an electric hand saw ($40). Now Home Depot will cut the wood in squares the way you need, but curving the edges is why you need the saw. Carpet is a few cents per square foot. Cost me about $12 for what I needed. I came back to Home Depot with my 2 halves wood already shaped to my boat. So when I came back to H.D., they put the carpet on for me. I already put my hinges on but at H.D., they took them off to get the carpet on and reattached them. So just the carpet, wood, hinges (if you need them), $45 about.

But everyone is saying that the PVC on the raft is not that strong for the wooden floor but either way I'm still gonna do it and try it out

It's thin as the tubes, but you can place a wooden floor, just sand bottton and side well to avoid punturing or abrading with chips or non smooth lower floor. Useless to have such a large wooden transom as seen on vid, standard one will suport it nicey, unless needing to be thicker for engine shaft to protude better out transom to achieve a more desirable 90? prop thrust transom angle. Does this sib still comes with a pressure gauge plastic strip indicator attached to tube's side as in the old model ?

Yeah it still does it's the sevy test pressure gadget on the side .. I noticed the last time I went on the raft the pressure went kinda down and and it was close to being below the green line in the middle what does it mean when it goes down?

the pressure in the boat fluctuates depending on the temperature. This is the reason why the entry level boats like yours and mines have a softer limit for where the recommend you fill the air to. Because in hot weather, the pressure becomes greater and your tubes will expand. In colder weather pressure becomes less and your tubes will feel slightly deflated. So you inflate to a safe level to accommodate these changes.

There is a big difference between plain PVC and PVC reinforced with fabric which has limited stretch. The unsupported fabric will stretch over time and become a problem. It is limited in the ability to withstand pressure or punctures.

Inflatables meant for normal service always use reinforced fabric while the less durable boats and water toys use unsupported fabric. They are not meant for such things as rough water or the use of higher power propulsion and quickly fall short of expectations when used with motors. They are normally of donut shape and best used with manual propulsion.

Used within their limitations, they do fairly well but should not be considered to be nearly as serviceable. They are not as safe as the supported fabric boats and are more swim toy than real boat.

Also understand that all rules for boats apply once a motor is attached and in most places must carry registration numbers. Should you be checked while out on the water, you will be fined if all safety equipment is not on board the boat. You are very likely to be checked by the authorities in Florida and as a minimum will be sent back to shore. You could be fined more than the replacement cost of the boat depending on the situation.

Do not mean to burst your bubble, but that is a fact of life. Once you cross the line between swim toy and water craft, you are in a whole different world.

I have seen people fined here in Georgia if they did not have one foot on the bottom while using the boat as a swim toy. Once away from the bank, safety equipment is mandatory. Lack of PFDs and registration becomes very expensive fast.

Better you hear this here on the site than from the authorities.

If you still want to motorize it, be sure that you carry all the safety devices required and have registration numbers affixed to the craft. You may also have to register it for marine taxes.

Ajm,

What you could do is inflate sib to it's recommended working pressure (RWP), while sib is floating, give it some minutes for overall tube/floor pressure to stabilize, pump again to RWP to achieve a more rigid sib for better performance if rowing or plan using a small motor. Don't remenber quite well the color reading of the pressure gauge, many moons have elapsed since had my K-86. Believe was Red, Yellow, Green. Red colors are always bad stay away from them, If with 3 colors stick to middle one.

Ajm,

You have discovered that a sun shade, bimibi, canopy is a must have specially during summer times when sun gets really hot and nasty. A Sevylor is too limited to install nice gadgets, they are intended as first starter sibs. Installing bimini, the ones that can be bought at boating stores are not suitable fot your sib, your unsupported thin pvc fabric tube will rock and flex along bimini, lacks tube rigidity.

Your last option would be to install a 10 mm plywood wooden floor deck on top floor and stand a light standard umbrella on it, tie with side strings, small ropes to sib sides. Will need a base glued on top wooden floor for umbrella pole fixation so pole stands vertical. 380-430 biminis well strapped to sides stands rigid on well inflated 1.2 mm polyurethane fabric tubes.

Happy Boating
