info lower end size

working on some info to get a top end prop for my 1989 3.0L,20' maxum and on the side of the lower unit for the gearing it has 1:98 is this a high gear?

The 1.98-1 is the normal ratio for the GM inline 4 cylinders.Allows it to operate within it`s powerband.

This is a low ratio drive. High gear ratio would be 1.5 or 1.6.

Your boat should be propped to max rpm (what ever the mfg sez) at WOT with normal load that you use. If you run mostly empty this would be a higher pitch prop then if you had 6 peeps and camping gear all the time.

putting a big prop on your boat would be like putting 35 in tires on a toyota mini truck with a 4 cyl. Lugging the engine, overheating and excess wear.
