Does anybody have any info on Glasstrong boats?

Hello everyone....Newbie here, thanks for the ad!..I just purchased my first boat....i can't read the H.I.N..if it has one. It has a sticker right near the engine, which i can only make out some of it. What i can see is- max hp= 55, max load= 1000lbs incl. engine, model# cv-140, serial# 229
Theres a large oval sticker on each side at the stern and i can just make out Glasstrong of canada. I have spent hours cruising the net looking for info and i can't find anything. As i'm a new member i can't post pics yet, but i do have some of the boat.
About the boat- 14 foot fiberglass, 45 hp chrysler that runs like a dream, hull is in fantastic condition, top paint is faded. no damage to the floor. A basic runabout that i just picked up for $600 ca
I'll be all over this site in the coming months and i look forward to gaining the knowledge you guys will be giving me:)

They were in operation from about 1972 til 1992 as a business. Boat production may have started later or ended earlier.

Else, I've got nothing, not even a reference pix snagged online.

I think I hear of them. But I thought there were another boat builder in Georgia. I didn't know there were a Canadian company. Or maybe we are talking about two different companies. Like previous stated, so many boat companies have come and gone over the years. So I could easily be two difference companies. :noidea:

Are you sure it's not GLASTRON (minus the "G")? If not, never heard of Glastrong.. The HIN should be stamped or on a tag at the upper right corner on the outside of the transom.

Silvertip, you are correct, I thing I was thinking about Glastron, not Glasstrong. Thanks for the question and correction.

Glasstrong was Canadian

He bought it for $600ca, so its not likely to be a typo or a Glastron.

Glastron boats grew up in Austin, TX, back in the 50's era. President Lyndon Johnson had one given to him, a 20' I/O with a 454 Chevy. The secret service boat that usually accompanied Pres. J., while boating on the lake named after him (originally lake Marble Falls)....big marble quarry locally and the water fell over the spillway as it was in the Highland Lakes chain in central TX., above Austin, didn't have that engine. So one of his pastimes was to out run them just because he could do it.

Quality boat, Originally used the Volvo Penta brand of outdrive in a package of their name sake. Followed them for awhile after leaving the area. Knew that the Canadian co. that bought out OMC bought them too.....the one that makes E tech Evinrudes....starts with a B.

Edit: It just hit me....Bombadier who make lots of things including airplanes as I recall. Doubt a co. like that would invest in junk with a bad name. Quite the contrary.

Addition to my first post..here are pics of my new to me boat. I still can't find any other tags/markings on the boat, from the pics online i've been able to find it looks like it could be around 1973-76??? The motor is a 1978. Anyone out there ever seen one like this?

Mars Leisure Products in Manitoba bought the rights to Canadian Glastron, they built Glastron boats in Manitoba until the plant burnt down, At the time the Canadian ones were built it was easy to tell them apart from the US built ones. The Canadian ones had decals for the name rather than the name plates. Also the hulls were blown chop cloth rather than a hand laid hull like the US built ones. Mars Leisure Product never rebuilt the plant and never built their boats in Alberta.
