Hi, I just acquired an five hp Johnson sea horse.
model TN26, sn 858034. Can anyone tell me the year of this engine and fuel mix. The built in gas tank seems to have a lot of old grit on the upper inside surface. Any ideas on how to clean this out without letting any get into the carb. Or should I assume the carb is also gummed up and do a rebuild on it? Looks like it has been sitting for a long time....any other suggestions on how to get it ready to start? Thanks

TN-26 is a 1950-51 5HP.
I would figure that the tank, tank filter, fuel lines and carb will all need attention.

Howdy, Hunter.

Your TN-26 is a 1950 5.0hp.

Set points at .020, Champion plugs gapped at .030.

Correct fuel mix is 24:1, unleaded regular and TC-W3 rated outboard oil.

You will need to overhaul the carb, clean the tank and lines, replace the water pump impeller.

Get a manual here: http://www.outboardrepairs.com/manuals/

Good luck. :)

Thanks for info.... is this engine water cooled. I am not seeing any intake or return holes.
