info on 115 johnson seahorse v4

i have a johnson 115 v4 sea horse modle #j115tlcim
serial #j5501902.I have a few ?s . First any info about the year buit would be great so i can buy a book and what the best book to buy is?.second i seem to have oil leaking from the lower end i think this is bad?

it's a 1981, service manuals # 50767 $90.00 from kencook.com/johnsonevinrude there are other manuals out there but the mfg, is the best. the oil depends on where it is coming from..leaking form a screw in the lower unit, leaking out of the prop, or just down the side of the engine. different places different things. did you just acquire this motor and has it been sitting for a while. do you have any history on this motor. all helpful when you ask so we are more informed. also in the engine faq forum read 'awakening a sleeping outboard.' get back to us.

What color is the oil leaking from the lower unit? Is it clear or black?

i just want to thank you guys for the info very helpfull the oil leaking was black but i figured out that it was in the pan under what i think is called the power head and when i tilted the engine it leaked out was told by the boat shop it is not a problem.thanks again guys i am up and running and should be in the water on sat
