Hi;
I just got an Evinrude 9.9 ser #E0001099, mdl #10625R. I've only ran it in a barrel so far and it takes about 5 minutes and then a small spray of water comes out exhaust. Is this normal? Once it starts spraying does it continue? My only experiance with outboards were larger Johnson and merc motors and they shot a steady stream at startup. Also the party I purchased the motor from was not sure of the year model? Thanks Rogueriver

Re: Info on evinrude 9.9 cooling

The model # is for a 1976 9.9HP Evinrude. It did not come with an "overboard indicator" or "tell-tale". When the engine is running the exhaust housing fillls with exhaust and water and water should spit out of the holes on the back of the mid section. You may get more water if you set the motor in deeper water, several inches above the anti-ventilation plate and at least enough to cover the water pump.

If the flow is weak, you should consider replacing the water pump with a new complete pump. http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfinder/?cart_id=933417179&gd_grid_id=1168&gd_poid=110930&gd_row=4&keywords=water%20pump&session_id=877947145
