I will be taking my whole family -- ages 2-64 -- to Lake Mead and taking out the 75' Silver Xtreme from Callville Bay Marina in a couple fo weeks. I am interested to know if anyone has been on that boat and also what you might recommend for areas to go, how fishing might be, where to ski/jet ski, -- anything, really. Thanks!

Re: Information and recommendations

I have posted a lot about Lake Mead, including Houseboat stuff. Our favorite hangout is actually at Mushroom Reef which is roughly 35 miles East of Callville. Have you houseboated before? Do you prefer to move a lot or stay put?

Here are some thread links with lots of good info:

There are some GPS coordinates in the last one too. I'll be there June 18 - 21 . . .

Re: Information and recommendations

Sounds like a blast! I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

I would love to do this someday so I have done a little research on houseboating in general.

Although I don't have any specfic links, (I just did a google search on it) i found quite a few helpful websites especially if you have never houseboated before.

A couple things that i remember:

Get a bowrider / runabout / jetski type of boat to pull along. Used for exploring and running to get stuff from marina's, tubing, etc.

Be sure you know what is provided with the boat. (Linens, towels, etc)

Assign jobs to everyone for docking, beaching, etc. No one will be in the way then.

Keep coolers covered with damp towels. Know what you want before getting into a cooler. Ice melts very fast.

Grocery shopping nearby is easier with a well prepared list ahead of time. Stop at the store just before arriving and load up. If traveling with multiple people, communicate as to not carry duplicate stuff. (2 bottle of ketchup, etc)

Just a couple of things that stood out to me. Sounds like you are getting a very nice boat. You may not need to worry about some of this stuff. (Fridge may be large enough, depending on how long you want to run the generator).

Hope you have a great time and be sure to stop back in here and share your experience with the rest of us!
