Wow, you like to make a guy earn his pay....

Ok, no mention of answers to the questions I asked, so here goes....

So, that colour system indicates it's pre-BIA colour coding, and the red/white on 4 is only on systems with an ammeter in the instrument cluster... Here's what I think your wiring should be....

Thanks very much Chris .You guys on here are the best .good thing for green horns like me who start to do sonsomething n realize shoot I am way over my head . I couldn't answer any of your questions for the only three wires were hooked up. Ground, red circuit wire and the temp wire. I used a 12 volt battery and light tester to see which plug # light up when touched. Now I have to put this in my boat. Good thing for you guys and Iboats lol.thanks again everyone

Ok not sure where to search on here for this but but every Google search I do I get either a really blurry picture, please join this site to continue, or a diagram that does not fit my motor. It's a 1986 3.0 140 HP R/MR/Alpha 1. Not sure on motor serial number but I took some pics of the valve cover which I hope it sheds some light. In the boat is a volt meter, two fuel gauges, trim gauge but OMC , tach, speedo, oil, and water . Key switch has Acc, Batt, Ign and a raised pole which has St. Any and all help would be appreciated.
