As I read through the many posts there is considerable reference to "L" drives. I have a 1989 Force 85 HP. How do I know if it is an "L" drive.

Also reading a post. The voltage while running on my Force 85 HP goes up to around 17 volts. I guess they do not have regulators. Has anyone installed a regulator and where do you get one??

Was FORCE a poor quality engine to start with, or do they just take a lot of TLC and $$$ to keep them happy??

Thanks for the help.

Re: Information on Force Engines

An L drive extends through the boat...like an inboard.

Yes..sometimes Force overvolt as they just have a rectifier.

US Marine bought out Chrysler engines...and made FORCE.

IGN on these engines can be a nightmare...Unless you have one that is made with the Mercury engine.

Production was stopped on this engine as it was no longer need nor was money wanted to be spent by Mercury to convert it to the 2006 EPS standards.

Basically it was the NON oil injected engine that Mercury could sell...Though...SportJets were oil injected...and some used Autoblend.

TMD

Re: Information on Force Engines

Thanks for the information. Also an aquaintance that has the same Force outboard 85 HP, not absolutely sure of the year, stated that oil injection was an option when he bought it. Was oil injection an option on a 1989 or later?

Thanks.
