I found the no spark problem
when I cleaned dist cap and rotor the contact spring came out
have nice blue spark now
all I think I need is more fule and let it run alittle and see how it goes

it's nice to 2 motors the same
I took off the other dist cap and found that iam missing center contact
I mean there should a center like carbonfibor brush to contact rotor not just a spring

yes, the carbon brushes do wear out, but it takes a real long time.

One motor looks like it was worked by mech.and the other looks like it 45 yr of different people working on it ing wires falling out of cap no clips to helps them in place or order

I have reading up on link and sync

I was wondering how to timming
on the motor with just one punch mark on flywheel

can you help me with that?

I will keep all my post here to mercury motors

I tryed to do link and sync on the motor with timming decal and pointer and the motor ran on one 1 cyl with 3 plug out can I set timming with it running? I wouldn't think it would run on just one cyl but it did

I didn't think it would run on 1 cylinder either, but it should make no difference for link and synch.

The punch mark on the flywheel is used to align the timing decal. It might signify TDC, but I am not sure.

One would think that someone would make a replacement decal for that motor.
