hey guys need direction here.im doing the initial setup to my 1973 johnson 115 115esl73m.just put on a used ebay lower unit.works great.had to replace 1 of 2 cables .the old cable only has about 2 inches of actual cable coming out .used this for throttle but its really stiff and doesnt seem to move the throttle on the engine much more than 1 1/2 of travel,is this standard?was thinking of switching cables as to have more travel.shift doesnt need as much travel in the current configuration and works great.
also took the carbs back apart to install needle retainers which i did not install previously..earlier post.
i plan on doing the first start on muffs tomorrow.have had the motor running previously w/o lower unit for like 10 seconds before shutting down.using squirt bottle of premix method.thats why the carb re-teardown.
if anyone can help me with the initial cable settings that would be awesome.
my manual(factory)should be here in next couple of days.
for all of you really experienced guys that we all look to for help please follow this startup, my wife and i are really hoping for all this work to pay off.and we need your guidance.thank you all again!

Re: initial setup

Put the gearcase in neutral with the cable disconnected.

Put the Control handle in full forward [still disconnected] and bring it back to neutral.

Adjust the cable to the shift rod connector, using only the trunion.

Reconnect the shift cable.

Test.
