During the carburetor rebuild, I noticed I have two types of inlets: One with a rubber insert (A in the photo) and another kind that is all brass (B in the photo). The motor, a 1978 115, had the inlets with the rubber (picture A), but my rebuild kit has the inlets that are all brass (picture B).

Is it OK to replace the older rubber inlet valves (picture B) with the ones that are brass (picture A) in these carbs?

Both seats will work as long as their corresponding needles are used.

The rubber insert seat uses an all steel needle while the all brass seat uses a viton tipped needle.

One, the seat conforms to the needle, other the needle conforms to the seat.

It all comes down to manufacturing costs, which Co. gets the parts contract that year.

Yeah, I noticed the needles had different tips. Thank you for the info.
