Just got a inline fuel filter (glass one), does anyone know if it should go between the tank and the primer bulb or the primer bulb and the motor.
Thanks
Joe

The motor should already have a filter. But if you insist on another, it goes between the tank and the primer bulb. Any particular reason you chose a glass filter?

Re: Inline Filter

I disagree! the last thing that should happen to gasoline before it is burned is to be filtered. If the engine does not already have an inline filter there, put the filter BETWEEN the fuel pump and carb(s).

That way, even if the fuel pump and lines shed particles, the filter will get them before the carbs.

If you already have an inline filter in the engine, then it is difficult to clog the primer bulb, but easier to clog the fuel pump, so the filter should go between the primer bulb and engine. This assumes that you will have the glass filter tight so pressure from squeezing the bulb does not force gas to leak out of it.

True, it will be more difficult to check and clean the filter, and you may have trouble finding a place for it, but it will be safer for the engine.

SO: There you have two different opinions between myself and Silvertip! Choose which one you think is best.

Re: Inline Filter

I have a old (1975) Johnson outboard, so putting the filter before the primer bulb or after is not a problem, I guess I have to see if I get a few more responses.
Thanks

Re: Inline Filter

if i were adding another filter, it would be fuel/water separator filter.
